Wis. town gets grant to repair trees

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — A southeastern Wisconsin town has been awarded $50,000 to repair trees damaged in a tornado this past summer.

According to the state Department of Natural Resources, the town of Vernon in Waukesha County qualified for a state Urban Forestry Catastrophic Storm Grant. The program, established in 2007, provides money for tree repair, removal and replacement following catastrophic storms.

An F1 tornado damaged or destroyed about 1,000 acres in the town on June 21.
