Sacred work

A crew works to remove pieces of concrete from the facade of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Congregation, 3635 S. Kinnickinnic Ave., St. Francis, on Wednesday. The project will convert what used to be a school and church into 68 senior apartment units and a church. Work includes adding space for about 40 apartment units. An area for the church will remain in the lower level. Oakwood Construction Co., Okemos, Mich., is the general contractor on the project, which is expected to be competed in fall of 2011.
