MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Former Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk is now interim county executive.
Falk had held the job since 1997 and announced last fall that she was leaving this April.
Falk had to quit early enough in order for the special election to coincide with the regular election cycle and she stepped down Dec. 21.
County Board chairman Scott McDonell filled in for 17 days before appointing Falk back to the position during a meeting Thursday night. The county board approved it.
The Wisconsin State Journal reports that a special election will be held April 5 to fill the final two years of her term. There are six candidates.
