MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker has appointed former state Rep. Phil Montgomery as chairman of the state Public Service Commission.
The Ashwaubenon Republican served in the Assembly from 1999 to 2010, when he decided not to seek another term. Montgomery served on the Joint Finance Committee and Assembly Committee on Energy and Utilities.
Walker cited Montgomery’s history of working on energy, utility and telecommunications issues as reason for the appointment. Walker also said Montgomery would “protect ratepayers” and hold down the cost of energy production to aid creation of jobs.
Montgomery was known for his sponsorship of a bill that ended local government regulation of the cable industry in Wisconsin.
