GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — The U.S. Department of Justice is back in federal court trying to get two companies to resume full-scale efforts to clean up the Fox River.
Assistant Attorney General Ignacia Moreno asked a federal judge Wednesday to force NCR Corp. and paper company Appleton to resume all-out efforts to dredge and dispose of PCB sediment they helped put in the river years ago as part of the paper-making process.
According to the government, NCR and Appleton plan to dredge only one-third to one-half as much sediment as they did in 2010.
Appleton spokeswoman Katherine Querard told the Appleton Post-Crescent that the company is “baffled that the government continues to attack and criticize the only two entities that are spending hundreds of millions of dollars to clean up the river.”
The judge ordered the parties to submit written arguments by April 12.
