Man dies after getting caught in skid steer

NEILLSVILLE, Wis. (AP) — Clark County authorities say a man has died after getting caught in a skid steer — a compact heavy-duty vehicle that can be used to move dirt, snow and other loads — that he was trying to repair.

The sheriff’s department said it received a 911 call Monday morning reporting that a man was trapped in a skid steer and not breathing.

By the time deputies arrived at the farm a family member had freed the man. He couldn’t be resuscitated and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The man was identified as 69-year-old Richard J. Shaw of Neillsville.

Investigators say Shaw was apparently trying to repair mechanical problems. He became pinned between the loader arms and the engine hood at the rear of the vehicle.
