Architecture Billings Index tumbles in April

Minneapolis (Dolan) — A national barometer of construction spending activity took a big hit in April.

The American Institute of Architects announced that its Architecture Billings Index dropped nearly three points in April to 47.6, a score that reflects a sharp decrease in demand for design services. Scores under 50 indicate a decline in billings.

The Northeast had the highest reading (51.2), followed by the Midwest (51.1).
