Feds seek comment on Wisconsin River erosion plan

Madison, Wis. (AP) — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is looking for public comments on a plan to combat bank erosion on the lower Wisconsin River in hopes of preserving American Indian burial mounds.

The corps plans to reinforce about 700 feet of shoreline near Muscoda to protect the Ho-Chunk Nation burial site. The corps has completed a draft environmental assessment that found the project would have no significant impact.

People can file comments on the plan through June 24 by emailing corps environmental specialist Jonathan Sobiech or by mail at 180 E. 5th St., Suite 700, St. Paul, MN, 55101-1678.
