Public Works Bid Schedule “C” – 2011 – Historic Restorations, Tallman House Roof, Soffit & Chimney, Janesville

The Tallman House in Janesville is back in the news, announcing renovation plans and information about its annual fundraiser.

Last July I wrote about renovation needs and plans to increase business at this historic building. A portion of the work is now out for bidding, and involves roofing, soffit and chimney restorations. Bids are due to the city of Janesville by 2 p.m. June 22.

Plans for the project will be made available Wednesday.

The building is noted for its distinctive style and the events involving Abraham Lincoln as a guest at the house. It is owned by the city and operated by the Rock County Historical Society.

Now in its 53rd year, the annual fundraiser/festival will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 7 on the grounds of the Tallman House, 440 N. Jackson St., Janesville. Events include an art show, a silent auction, kids painting programs, entertainment, food booths and a wine tasting event. Tours of the Tallman House will also be available.

Admission is $3 for adults and children under 12 are free. More information can be found at
