Tri-North Builders Inc. resumed work Tuesday on a downtown Milwaukee remodeling project that was interrupted Monday afternoon when a vehicle crashed into the site, leaving one dead and a construction worker injured.

A mangled Dumpster in a fenced-off area outside the Milwaukee Center office tower was the only visible evidence Tuesday of the crash. The incident occurred when a person driving a van veered out of control Monday and struck the construction zone, sending one worker to the hospital.

The driver, who died as a result of the incident, “may have experienced a medical emergency that caused the crash,” said Anne Schwartz, a spokeswoman for the Milwaukee Police Department. No further details were available.

The construction worker, Schwartz said, suffered “injuries not believed to be life threatening.”

Robert Thayer, a spokesman for Tri-North, said the Madison-based company would not release further details on the injured worker or the Milwaukee Center project until Wednesday.

The Milwaukee Center is a 28-story downtown building adjacent to City Hall.
