Kenosha man killed while working on Illinois road

WOODSTOCK, Ill. (AP) – A 34-year-old man was struck and killed by a car while working for the Illinois Department of Transportation in northern Illinois.

The accident happened Monday on Route 14 in Woodstock.

Authorities say IDOT worker Ryan Nichols of Kenosha was pronounced dead at Centegra Hospital. McHenry County Deputy Coroner Kim Bastic said Nichols died from severe head trauma.

Officials with Woodstock’s police department said Nichols was measuring the roadway when he was struck but wasn’t in a construction zone.

IDOT officials said Nichols had been with the department since 2002 and primarily worked to inspect job sites.

Police say the vehicle’s 67-year-old driver was cited for failure to use due care with a pedestrian.

The accident remains under investigation.
