One man is dead after an industrial accident at the Caterpillar plant in South Milwaukee.
According to the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner’s office, it responded to the plant Thursday, and initial reports indicate there is one male victim.
According to a Caterpillar spokesman, an employee working in the weld shop area was struck by a welded structure while it was being repositioned.
The South Milwaukee Fire Department said the man was dead when they arrived.
Caterpillar, based in Peoria, Ill., is the world’s largest maker of construction and mining equipment. It acquired Bucyrus International in July.
Chris Zortman, assistant area director of the Milwaukee OSHA office, confirmed the agency has a representative conducting an investigation at the site.
