Church gets light from a higher power

If you’d like to learn more about energy conservation, and to view a new solar-electric system in a church setting, you can join members of the Lake Country Unitarian Universalist Church at noon on Sept. 24, where a ceremony commemorating the new system will take place. The church is located at W299 N5595 Grace Drive, Hartland.

The church has recently completed installation of solar panels to supply electricity to the congregation. The purpose is to decrease dependency on typical energy sources, and promote environmental awareness. The system will produce about 25,000 kW per year, will prevent about 29 tons of carbon dioxide from entering the air, and will save about 10 tons of coal per year.

The system will pay for itself in 15 years.

The solar panel project is the most recent of several energy efficiency projects done at the church within the last few years. A new insulated roof and efficient lighting projects are now complete.

The solar dedication ceremony is open to the public, and will feature speakers and organizations displaying information about conservation techniques and issues.
