Call them the Hotties, or the Paveies.
The Hot Mix Asphalt Environmental Leadership Awards were created by the state’s Department of Natural Resources and the Wisconsin Asphalt Pavement Association to recognize hot mix asphalt plants that exceed the high environmental standards set for the asphalt industry.
The award criteria was developed by a subcommittee of the Environmental Technology Transfer Team, which includes the DNR and WAPA along with representatives from the Wisconsin Towns Association, Wisconsin County Highway Association, League of Wisconsin Municipalities and Marathon County Zoning Department.
In addition to exceeding environmental standards, an HMA plant also has to show meritorious performance in safety, plant appearance and community relations, including dedicated support of its community.
To receive an award, an HMA plant must receive a passing score in each of the following categories: environmental compliance; safety; environmental control measures; plant appearance; and community relations.
