Pewaukee American Legion looking to rebuild memorial

By Keith Barber

The need for a new Veteran’s Memorial at the Pewaukee American Legion Post 71 is capturing the attention of local residents.

The existing memorial is crumbling and deteriorating at a rapid pace, and the Legion has decided to move forward with a new monument at its building at 118 Main St., Pewaukee.

A fundraising effort began Jan. 31 and will continue until enough money is raised to start the project. The goal is to dedicate the monument on Memorial Day 2013.

There are several ways individuals can donate, including a memorial bricks program. There will be 150 bricks available for purchase to memorialize veterans, which will be placed around the finished monument.

The Legion also has an awesome meat raffle scheduled for Saturday as part of the fundraiser. A drawing of the proposed memorial may be seen on the Legion’s website along with information about the fundraiser, a calendar of events and mission statement.
