LA CROSSE, Wis. (AP) — A high-voltage transmission line in western Wisconsin won’t cross the scenic Kickapoo Valley.
According to American Transmission Co., the region is no longer under consideration as a route for the 345-kilovolt line that will connect the Madison area with another proposed line from the Twin Cities.
ATC spokeswoman Sarah Justus tells the La Crosse Tribune the company trimmed the number of proposed routes to five through two years of study and public meetings. ATC considered environmental, engineering and political concerns.
According to ATC, the $425 million project will improve system reliability and efficiency.
