To the editor:
Operating Engineers Local 139 strongly supports the Ryan Creek sewer interceptor project undertaken by the city of Franklin. Three contractors who are signatory to Wisconsin trade unions are working on this project, which is creating family supporting jobs for our members: Super Excavators Inc., D.F. Tomasini Contractors Inc. and Globe Contractors Inc.
After enduring four consecutive years of double-digit unemployment in the construction industry, unions such as Local 139 are grateful to have their members working on much needed jobs such as this, projects that improve and advance the infrastructure of Milwaukee County.
A sewer interceptor project of this size, likely in excess of $50 million and lasting for upwards of 18 months, comes along once every decade or so. Congratulations to the city of Franklin for initiating this important economic development project and for helping stabilize the lives of middle-class working families.
