A special meeting of the Milwaukee County Board of Supervisors’ Economic and Community Development Committee will be held at 9 a.m. Tuesday, June 26, in Room 201-B of the Milwaukee County Courthouse.
Supervisor Patricia Jursik, who chairs the committee, called the meeting to address an issue laid over at Monday’s regularly scheduled meeting. A vote on whether to accept a revised development agreement for a Park East project on Block 26 was delayed for a month after supervisors heard competing union viewpoints on the project.
The revised agreement would add Wangard Partners Inc., Milwaukee, as a member of the development team for the first two phases of the project.
Members of Service Employees International Union Local 1 urged the committee members not to approve the revised agreement, saying Wangard Partners’ decision to replace Local 1 janitors at its 875 E. Wisconsin Ave. property last November suggests the firm would not staff union maintenance workers. Representatives of the Milwaukee Building and Construction Trades Council, Teamsters Local 200, and International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 494, among others, asked the committee members to approve the revised agreement, saying the project would create hundreds of jobs for construction workers.
Jursik called the special meeting after Supervisor Joe Sanfelippo, who is not a member of the committee, issued a statement pressuring the committee to approve the revised agreement before the full County Board meets on June 28.
