We Energies caps gas leak by Mitchell airport

A gas leak was reported in Cudahy near the 5800 block of S. Pennsylvania Ave. around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday after a contractor performing road work hit a service line.

We Energies responded to the call and shut off the gas by 10:20 a.m., spokesman Brian Manthey said.

“We were able to block both ends and put a stopper on it,” Manthey said, “and there were some minor repairs to make.”

The cause of the leak is still being investigated by We Energies.

The Cudahy Fire Department had nearby businesses temporarily evacuate their buildings as a precaution, Manthey said.
