C.G. Schmidt to build 3-farm digester

A manure digester in Springfield is expected to convert waste from three dairy farms into energy and fertilizer.

The project, a partnership between Milwaukee-based C.G. Schmidt Inc. and Mequon-based U.S. Biogas LLC, broke ground at the Ziegler Dairy Farm on Thursday, according to a news release from C.G. Schmidt.

The Blue Star Dairy and the Hensen Brothers Dairy will also contribute waste to the digester.
