Milwaukee County Board agrees to buy out warehouse renters

Milwaukee County is expected to pay $3.9 million to buy three renters out of a warehouse that stands in the way of the Zoo Interchange reconstruction.

The Milwaukee County Board of Supervisors unanimously supported the proposal Thursday. The county-owned warehouse, on West Watertown Plank Road in Wauwatosa, must be demolished to make way for an extension of Swan Boulevard.

The money to buy the Milwaukee Regional Medical Center, Children’s Hospital and Froedtert Hospital out of their lease agreements, and to help them move to a new home, would come from a $22.6 million agreement with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation.

The warehouse also houses the county’s fleet maintenance operation, which will move to West Lapham Street.
