Humor sometimes falls flat.
As someone who has never told a joke that is not 100 percent hilarious and perfectly timed, I don’t know what that’s like.
But I do know it happens to other people, and it appears to have happened Wednesday to Oak Creek Mayor Steve Scaffidi.
Scrolling through my Twitter feed, I saw the mayor’s tweet to Milwaukee County Board of Supervisors Chairwoman Marina Dimitrijevic.
The mayor’s gentle gibe is met with stoicism, and I can almost hear the crickets through the computer screen.
I enjoy the moments when social media allows me to peer beyond the carefully constructed public figure and see the real person propping up that persona. Mayor Scaffidi seems to embrace that idea as well, using Twitter for conversations as well as press releases.
I’m guilty of using, and perhaps overusing, Twitter to disseminate information, but I try to insert a few personal touches here and there as well. A picture of my hamster is still somewhere on the Internet, and I’ve made up my own share of humorous hashtags.
But then again, you can’t fault someone for taking things seriously. Especially during work hours.
