The Wisconsin Department of Transportation has scheduled a public hearing to review design elements for a road reconstruction project in Waukesha County.
Improvements are planned for Highway 67 in Oconomowoc between Blue Ribbon Drive and Thackeray Trail, including the northbound and southbound bridges over I-94.
Highway 67 needs to be reconstructed for several reasons, but the main factor is to accommodate traffic growth due to land development. One such development may be introduced to city planners in the near future, and may involve a Wal-Mart supercenter store and a Sam’s Club.
Other conditions that need to be addressed include poor pavement quality of the existing roadway, lack of pedestrian and bicycle routes, substandard intersections within this corridor, a high accident rate, and general planning for future traffic needs. Alternatives include a do-nothing option, reconstruction, and reconstruction with future lanes planned.
A 2015 construction start is anticipated.
A public hearing will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Nov. 20 at the Oconomowoc Public Library, 200 South St., Oconomowoc.
