A community meeting scheduled for Tuesday night to discuss redevelopment plans for the former Dover Street School will be postponed until January.
Alderman Tony Zielinski, whose district includes the school, plans to hold the meeting to reveal plans for Teachtown, an apartment complex that could extend past the former school and that would be intended to house young teachers.
Milwaukee’s Plan Commission voted unanimously last week to recommend the city approve a zoning change that would accommodate the project. Gina Spang, director of facilities and maintenance for Milwaukee Public Schools, told the commission that the Milwaukee Board of School Directors should have a preferred developer and plan for Teachtown by the end of the month.
