Six Wisconsin communities will receive grants totaling more than $5.1 million to help develop abandoned industrial sites.
According to a press release from the office of Gov. Scott Walker, the state’s Idle Industrial Sites Redevelopment Program will provide $1 million each to Beloit, Port Edwards, Milwaukee and Wausau. Waterloo will get $584,000 and Madison $534,000, according to the release.
The program, administered by the Wisconsin Economic Development Corp, is in its first year. Sixteen communities applied for the grants, which can be used to pay for demolition, environmental fixes or other developments named in a redevelopment plan on sites larger than 10 acres which have been abandoned more than five years.
