A Milwaukee panel voted unanimously Tuesday to designate three city-owned properties as blighted.

The Zoning, Neighborhoods & Development Committee’s recommendation, which the full Common Council is expected to consider Jan. 22, would allow Milwaukee to apply the designation to two brownfields at 3034 and 3044 W. Lisbon Ave. and to an adjacent lot at 1812 N. 31st St. The city acquired the properties through tax foreclosure.

The Redevelopment Authority of the City of Milwaukee would remediate the brownfields using grant money from the Environmental Protection Agency, according to a land disposition report.

Elaine Miller, real estate manager for the Department of City Development, told the committee the parcels would be combined to make the property more attractive for redevelopment.
