Milwaukee County on Wednesday issued a request for proposals for site investigation and schematic designs for South Shore Park.
The focus of the work will be on improving water quality at the park, which is on the shore of Lake Michigan. Proposals are due at 3:30 p.m. Feb. 12.
The work, which the county estimated at $84,000, represents the first phase of the park project. According to projections from the county’s Department of Parks, Recreation and Culture, the remaining three phases would cost $4.2 million.
Poor water circulation and pollution from birds and parking lot runoff have led to beach closures at the park.
The second phase, planned for 2015, will focus on engineering and construction plans. Construction will take place during the third and fourth phases, which are anticipated for 2016 and 2017, according to DPRC projections.Follow @mollywillms
