Carpentry skills are for the birds

Hone those carpentry skills.

The Ozaukee Washington Land Trust has announced a birdhouse building contest called For The Birds. The bird event is scheduled from 3 to 6:30 p.m. April 5 at the Forest Beach Migratory Preserve in Port Washington. The event will offer a food buffet, music, door prizes and silent auction.

There are two categories available for eager contestants: one is a functional category that mandates the design for specific bird types. The other is a whimsical category where the constructor can reveal creative designs and skills.

One winner from each category and the “People’s Choice” winner will be awarded a $100 prize.

Those interested in the competition can register at www.OWLT.org/for-the-birds with completed birdhouses dropped off at 200 Wisconsin St., West Bend, before March 28.
