TOWN OF WILSON, Wis. (AP) — Kohler Co.’s plan to build a golf course next to Kohler-Andrae State Park has drawn opposition from environmentalists, who worry the project could hurt the Lake Michigan shoreline.
According to a Sheboygan Press Media report, residents can weigh in during a public hearing Wednesday at the town of Wilson’s town hall.
Kohler owns the 247 acres on which it wants to build the 18-hole course. Four holes would be along the Lake Michigan shoreline. The company also plans to build a maintenance building and turf nursery on state property.
Some residents started an online petition opposing the plan. Friends of the Black River Forest say a golf course would endanger the fragile area and damage wetlands and forests.
Even if Kohler gets permission from the town, it’d still need state and federal approval.
