Project: Shawano Medical Center

Address: 100 County Road B, Shawano

Cost: $41.8 million

Size: The project involves adding 127,000 square feet and remodeling 36,000 square feet of a clinic.

Start date: Aug. 1, 2013

Estimated completion date: Feb. 28, 2016

Owner: ThedaCare Inc., Appleton

Lead contractor: The Boldt Co., Appleton

Lead architect/engineer: Hammel, Green and Abrahamson Inc., Minneapolis

Number of workers employed: At the project’s peak, 150 trades employees will be on site

Project challenge: One challenge will be connecting the addition to the existing clinic, which is still in operation. Noise and vibrations also have resulted in some challenges.

Significance to the region: Boldt officials estimate the company will spend $1 million directly with businesses in and around Shawano. Most trades employees on the project are from Shawano or within the surrounding 50 miles.

Point of interest: The building site had poor soil conditions. As a result, Boldt put in 560 piers, 20 feet deep, before the footings and foundations could be installed.
