Lawmakers are considering giving the state Department of Tourism money to promote in-state buildings that were designed by Frank Lloyd Wright.
The proposal is part of budget modifications that Republicans on the state Legislature’s Joint Finance Committee approved in a 12-4 party line vote on Thursday. The proposal, which cannot take effect without first passing the full Legislature and being signed by Gov. Scott Walker , would give the department $500,000 to promote buildings that were both designed by Wright and are open to the public. The motion also would extend the Frank Lloyd Wright Heritage Trail from Sauk County to Richland County and instruct the state Department of Transportation to add three more markers to the trail.
Elsewhere, the proposal would let WisDOT add directional signs to any highway along the trail.
A previous version of the proposal had called for having the trail stretch from Interstate 94 in Kenosha County to Wright’s Taliesin home in Spring Green. Follow @erikastrebel
