Highway worker struck, killed in Lincoln County crash

MERRILL, Wis. (AP) — Authorities say a county highway worker is dead after he was struck by a car in north-central Wisconsin.

Lincoln County sheriff’s officials say 50-year-old Marcus Wydeven of Tomahawk was killed in the crash near Merrill on Tuesday.

Authorities say Wydeven was flagging traffic and was holding a stop sign.

Officials say an 84-year-old Antigo woman hit the worker before her car left the road, flipped over and spun several times. She had to be cut from her car and is at a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Wydeven was pronounced dead at a hospital. He had been with the Lincoln County Highway Department for 20 years.

Both lanes of the highway were closed for about five hours.
