Oil tanker crashes near Hales Corners

The southbound lanes of Highway 100 at Janesville Road near Hales Corners are closed after a tanker truck carrying fuel crashed, causing a large spill near the intersection of the two roads. Hazmat, as well as the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, has been called to the scene.

There are no reports of injuries.

The fuel spill has been contained and cleanup work is underway. Detours have been set up to take motorists around the scene of the crash, according to Michael Pyritz, Wisconsin Department of Transportation communications manager for the southeast region.

Some congestion is expected to remain even after all the lanes are reopened. The current estimate is that the lanes will be fully reopened by 2 p.m. Tuesday. In the meantime, motorists are being asked to avoid the area if possible.
