Minority hiring goal reached on Vikings stadium project

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The public authority overseeing the new Minnesota Vikings stadium says the project has passed a goal that roughly one-third of the construction workforce be made up of minorities.

Minnesota Public Radio News reports the state had set a goal in 2012 for 32 percent of workers at U.S. Bank Stadium to be minorities. Alex Tittle with the Minnesota Sports Facilities Authority says 37 percent of stadium workers are minorities. He says 9 percent of workers are women, surpassing a 6 percent goal.

Tittle, the public authority’s equity directory, says the Minneapolis stadium project is meeting goals for minority and female workers through recruitment and targeted training programs.

State Human Rights Commissioner Kevin Lindsey says the hiring goals aren’t just about inclusiveness, but also keeping the state’s construction industry going amid shifting demographics.
