As part of its 200,000-square-foot expansion of its Brookfield headquarters, Milwaukee Electric Tool Corp. will be adding nearly 600 jobs over the next half decade.
Officials with the power tool manufacturer made the announcement at a groundbreaking ceremony on Monday. The $33 million expansion project is a collaboration between Milwaukee Tool, the city of Brookfield and the Wisconsin Economic Development Corp., among others.
“Wisconsin is strong, and continues to move forward,” Gov. Scott Walker, who was among those that attended the groundbreaking, said in a news release. “More people are working, fewer are unemployed, and our businesses continue to grow throughout the state.”
The expansion follows a 10-year process of redeveloping 190,000 square feet of former manufacturing space at the company’s Brookfield campus. The project includes the addition of a four-story office building, which will be connected to the company’s existing facility.
Milwaukee Tool will receive tax incentives through the WEDC’s Enterprise Zone Program for the expansion. The tax credits, worth up to $18 million, are tied to certain job creation and retention benchmarks, according to the news release. Follow @alexzank
