Wisconsin Department of Transportation officials plan to hold a fourth public meeting regarding the reconstruction of a state roadway in Racine County.
A stretch of Wisconsin highways 20 and 83, from Buena Park Road to Milwaukee Avenue in the communities of Waterford and Rochester, is scheduled to be rebuilt. East Main Street from First to Milwaukee streets will also be rebuilt as part of this project.
When finished, the road will be turned into a wider two-lane roadway — one lane in each direction with bike lanes —between Buena Park Road to the intersection of Main and First streets. From there, the road will have one travel lane in each direction to Milwaukee Avenue.
According to WisDOT, the project is in its final design phase. The department is in the midst of acquiring land for the project, and officials should submit final design documents this spring.
The project is intended to improve safety, sight distance and drainage throughout the corridor, among other things.
The meeting is scheduled from 4 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, April 21, at the Waterford Public Library, 101 N. River St., Waterford. The meeting will be an open-house format.
