Construction on the 45.9 million Lower Yahara River Trail in Dane County, which will include the state’s longest bicycle bridge, kicked off on Wednesday. The first phase of the project, which includes 2.5 miles of trails and more than 1 mile of bridges and boardwalk, is expected to finish in the summer of 2017.
The trail will eventually link Lake Farm County Park to the city of Stoughton.
The project’s initial construction phase will be paid for with about $4.6 million from the Federal Highway Administration Transportation Alternative Program, in addition to a $1.3 million contribution from Dane County.
Athens-based Janke General Contractors will perform the work. Follow @alexzank
