Milwaukee-area home sales jump 12 percent in May

MILWAUKEE (AP) — Sales of existing homes in the Milwaukee area rose 12 percent in May compared with the same month last year.

The Greater Milwaukee Association of Realtors reported Monday that 2,111 homes were sold last month in Milwaukee, Waukesha, Ozaukee and Washington counties. That compares with 1,880 homes in May of 2015.

Sales in Milwaukee County jumped 21.5 percent in May, compared with the same month in 2015.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports May marked the 19th time in the last 21 months that year-over-year sales increased in the Milwaukee area.

Home sales are up nearly 9 percent in the four-county area through the first five months of 2016. Real estate professionals say those sales might be even higher if more homes were for sale, but inventory is tight.
