MADISON, Wis. (AP) — The Wisconsin state Senate’s top Republican says he still supports Donald Trump despite a recording of Trump making predatory remarks about women.
Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald of Juneau told an audience at a downtown Madison luncheon that Trump’s remarks were “ridiculous and disgusting and embarrassing.” But he says he still stands by him and that Trump’s criticisms of Hillary Clinton are valid and they’re sticking to her.
He says he doesn’t believe the fallout from Trump’s remarks will hurt Republican state Senate candidates. He says the top of the ticket doesn’t always affect other candidates as much as some think it might.
However, Fitzgerald said if poll numbers show Trump is floundering Republicans would have to “adjust and see where that takes us.”
He did not elaborate.
