As the Wisconsin Department of Transportation nears completion of its portion of the Lakefront Gateway project in downtown Milwaukee, officials have opened the new intersection at Lincoln Memorial Drive and East Clybourn Street to traffic.
The $34 million Lakefront Gateway Project is a collaborative effort between the state, Milwaukee and Milwaukee County. WisDOT’s portion of the work includes a southward relocation of the eastbound and westbound ramps that take cars on and off Interstate 794 near the city’s lakefront, a widening of Clybourn Street and an extension of Lincoln Memorial Drive south.
Among other things, the new intersection will allow for traffic to get onto an Interstate 794 eastbound ramp, and will also serve as the initial intersection for traffic exiting from the westbound lanes of the interstate.
The intersection was opened for all traffic on Tuesday, except for an access point to the new extension of Clybourn Street to the Discovery World museum. That section of street remains under construction.
