Outagamie County will receive a $1 million state grant to build a roundabout for a new Gulfstream Aerospace hangar now under construction.
The new Gulfstream aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul center being built at the Appleton International Airport is expected to be complete next spring in a project that will create 171 new jobs. Gulfstream designs, builds and maintains business jet aircraft.
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation announced on Friday that the agency’s $1 million Transportation Economic Assistant grant will help build a new roundabout where County Highway B and Atlantis Drive meet in Outagamie County, a project meant to improve traffic flow near the new Gulfstream hangar.
The roundabout is expected to cost $2.5 million. Outagamie County is planning to pay any project costs not covered by the state grant. The project is scheduled to get underway in March and wrap up in fall 2019.
“The TEA program enables us to make a significant impact at the local level,” said WisDOT Secretary Dave Ross. “These transportation improvements support economic development.”
