Worker injured in Oak Creek trench collapse

A worker was injured when a trench collapsed at a job site in the Milwaukee suburb of Oak Creek on Monday.

Oak Creek Fire Department Battalion Chief John Martin said that, around 8 a.m. Monday, a worker was leaning on a box shoring up a six-foot trench when a wall of the trench gave way. Construction crews working at the site of a nearby Aldi grocery store remodeling project at 6810 S. 27th St. were able to free the worker from the trench before fire officials arrived on the scene.

The trapped worker suffered a non-life-threatening laceration and was taken to Froedtert Hospital for treatment, Martin said. An employee of Sheboygan-based Edgewater Plumbing said Edgewater was working at the site but declined to comment further.

The Occupational Health and Safety Administration was at the scene of the incident.
