Amber Lawrence isn’t defined by titles.
So even though she might be called an assistant project manager at BEAR Construction Co., a position she has held for nearly three years, she’s so much more for the general contractor.
The Illinois-based company has been in operation since 1984 and employs more than 200 people in three offices in Illinois and Wisconsin. Lawrence’s work has been indispensable to the success of the company’s Milwaukee office. In her current role, she manages programs and various client projects, overseeing scheduling, customer service and cooperation between contractors and construction crews.
“Amber has had a great run in the construction industry that ultimately gave her the skills and experience needed to be proficient as an assistant project manager,” said Joe Stamborski, a former colleague at BEAR. “Amber is the definition of a team and utility player. What I mean is, she is always willing to step into whatever role is needed the most at that time and help, constantly keeping the ship moving in the right direction.”
Lawrence is also committed to empowering other women in the industry. She regularly joins forces with them to work on business growth and finds time to help them as professionals.
She is active in the trade group Wisconsin Commercial Real Estate Women, which has helped generate various strong business leads.
“Working for BEAR Construction presents me opportunities to meet with various professionals from all walks of life,” Lawrence said. “And I like that. I appreciate being an honoree as a woman in construction. I’m a daughter, a wife, a mom … I know that. But I don’t look at myself as a woman in construction but rather as a professional project manager.”
