MILWAUKEE (AP) — Officials at Milwaukee’s Mitchell International Airport are seeking $25 million in next year’s county budget to continue work on the international terminal project, first announced in 2017.
Drawing more international flights to Mitchell has been a goal for years. But the project got no county funding in this year’s budget.
Still, Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele has supported the project in the past, and the 2018 county budget included $30 million for it.
A market study found about 1,000 people a day leave Milwaukee and use Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport to fly internationally.
Wisconsin Public Radio says airport officials won’t comment on their request until after Abele announces his recommended budget on Oct. 1.
