DNC seeks contractor to oversee construction for convention

Officials planning Milwaukee’s 2020 Democratic National Convention are seeking a general contractor to oversee the construction needed to outfit venues for the event next summer.

The Milwaukee 2020 Host Committee recently released a request for proposals seeking a general contractor and power and cable management vendor for the event, which is expected to draw thousands to the city.

The RFP was first issued in late November, and the host committee plans to hold an information session about the project from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., Thursday at Story Hill FireHouse, 407 N. Hawley Road in Milwaukee. Bids for the work are due at 5 p.m. Tuesday.

“The construction general contractor will play a significant contributing role in the 2020 Democratic National Convention with regard to the planning, estimating, build-out, and restoration of Fiserv Forum,” according to a spokeswoman for the host committee. “Additionally, the vendor for the power and cable management scope of work will be a very important member of the overall construction team.”

The project calls for a build-out of the Fiserv Forum to accommodate the event, and then a subsequent restoration of the Fiserv and other venues to their original state after the event is over.

Although the RFP calls for both construction and power and cable management work, the host committee may award that work to different companies, depending on what proposals it receives, according to a spokeswoman. Companies may also join forces for the work, as has been done during previous political conventions.
