Hoffman files $19.7M low offer for Brown County job in September letting

Highway 29 in Brown County

Bids are in for more than $70 million in work as part of the Wisconsin Department of Transportation’s September letting.

Hoffman Construction, of Black River Falls, submitted a $19.7 million low bid for a project on Highway 29 in Brown County, the biggest job of the month. Hoffman’s offer came in under the department’s internal estimates of at least $21 million for the project and beat out four rival offers.

As for other large projects up for grabs, Michels Corp., of Brownsville, submitted an $18 million low bid for a 14-mile project on Highway 45 in Washington County. The bid beat out four rival offers and fell within the department’s estimates of between $17 million and $20 million for the work.

The two projects are part of more than $70 million in work WisDOT released in the September letting. WisDOT has yet to sign contracts for the projects.

Other low bids in September included:

  • Payne & Dolan’s $8.2 million offer for work on Highway 36 in Racine County. The firm’s bid beat out two other offers and came in under WisDOT estimates
  • Greenville-based Northeast Asphalt’s $4.2 million bid for work on Highway 32 in Brown County. The offer beat out one other bid and came in under estimates
  • Waukesha-based Zenith Tech’s $4.7 million low bid for a project on Interstate 43 in Milwaukee county. The offer came in under estimates and beat out one other bid, a $7.1 million offer from Lunda Construction.
