This School District of Horicon project added an early-childhood and 4K-through-5th-grade elementary school to the existing middle and high school, consolidating the district’s buildings.
The elementary school now has four sections, its own dedicated classrooms and small group instruction spaces centered on a commons area. Each section nods to various natural features — drumlins, lakes and rivers, prairies and wetlands. Patterns, shapes and colors from each were incorporated into the design and large, custom wall graphics depicting native plant and animal life were put on display in common areas. The elementary addition also has a new kitchen, cafeteria and gymnasium that are shared by the middle and high schools.
The project also involved renovations to the existing middle and high schools to modernize shared spaces and improve infrastructure. The improvements included new administrative and district offices, new restrooms and showers for the locker rooms, a new multi-purpose room for athletics and building-system improvements.
