Unsung Hero of the Year

Julie Borgwardt – JP Cullen
If Julie Borgwardt doesn’t know something, she’ll figure it out and then train others in what she has learned.
It’s that quality and her wealth of knowledge that make her an unsung hero at JP Cullen.
Borgwardt is a project coordinator at the general contractor, where she has worked for the last 16 years. She describes her primary duties as “trying to keep my project team out of trouble and keep things running as smoothly as possible.”
Of the many projects Borgwardt has worked on, one that stands out is the new Sports Science Center for the Milwaukee Bucks.
“I never got to meet Giannis (Antetokounmpo) during construction, but it’s pretty cool to know he and the rest of the team practice in the building I helped to build.”
Other projects that Borgwardt has been a part of include new residence halls for the University of Wisconsin in LaCrosse, Madison and Whitewater, and UW-Milwaukee’s Northwest Quad renovation and Klotsche Center annex addition.
“I love the people I work with,” Borgwardt said. “I’ve been very lucky throughout the years to have worked with some great people and I’ve made a lot of friends for life.”
Borgwardt has been at the center of JP Cullen’s push to make use of effective and efficient processes. She helped the Milwaukee Division Manager start a small program for tracking job invoices. She also helped set up invoice tracking for accounts receivables.
“The project coordinator position was specifically created for Julie to best cultivate her strengths and talents,” said Colleen Wischnewski, marketing coordinator at JP Cullen. “Since then, she has developed learning plans for the support staff and is the go-to person for all of the administrators in the Milwaukee Division and the company for training and knowledge.”
