Ever since he was a boy, Mike Luther has been interested in carpentry.

That led him to study civil engineering and construction management at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. During college, Luther landed an internship at J.H. Findorff & Son and then was hired to work full-time at the company after graduation.

“I truly feel part of the Findorff family,” said Luther, a senior project manager at the company. “I work with a great group of people who are extremely passionate about the work we do.”

Over the past several years, Luther has worked on dozens of health-care projects, including the construction or renovation of more than 30 operating rooms. In 2019, Luther was brought in to oversee work on SSM’s replacement clinic on Fish Hatchery Road in Madison.

The $52 million, 180,000-square-foot building, on track to be completed in early 2022, will eventually house primary care and specialty services. Luther has played a central role in the project, helping to carry out a mentor-protégé plan initially suggested by former SSM Regional President Damond Boatright. He also made sure the project exceeded a diverse-workforce goal.

“From the early stages of the project, SSM Health, Urban League of Greater Madison, Operation Fresh Start and Findorff worked together to develop strategies that would meet or exceed the 8 to 10% diversity goal put forth by the stakeholders,” said Nancy Mayek, marketing lead for Findorff. “Overall, the project continues to exceed its goals surrounding workforce inclusion, with roughly 21% of the work to date performed by minority, women, disabled or veteran workers.”

Tony Sullivan, Findorff health care project executive, called Luther an invaluable part of the healthcare team.

“His commitment to his clients is second to none,” Sullivan said. “Every decision that Mike makes is with the patients and caregivers in mind. He is a great role model and leader for the entire Findorff team.”
