I-43 Becher Street interchange reconstruction starting in Milwaukee

Gov. Tony Evers has approved a reconstruction project at the Interstate 43 and Becher Street interchange in Milwaukee County.
The governor signed a $5.01 million contract with Waukesha-based LaLonde Contractors Inc. to replace the existing scissor ramp configuration with a diamond interchange, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation announced. Construction is expected to begin the week of April 6.
Crews will rebuild signals at ramp terminals, replace curb ramps to meet ADA standards and install new signing and pavement markings, WisDOT officials said.
The entire I-43 and Becher Street interchange will be closed during construction, officials said. On and off ramps, Becher Street under the interstate and other local roads will be closed and detours will be posted for the Lapham Boulevard Interchange, First and Sixth Streets.
Traffic on Interstate 43 is not expected to be affected during peak travel hours, officials added.
The project is expected to be completed by late fall 2026.
